Smarty Alert: Update on Donating Stuffed Animals and Toys
By Katie M
Last week I ran the blog How and Where to Donate Stuffed Animals. Since then Rachel H heard a rumor that Goodwill no longer accepts toy donations (any toys, not just stuffed animals) anymore. I tried to research whether or not that is accurate, but did not find any information. If anyone knows the latest policies with Goodwill's toy donations, please leave a comment below.
We also received additional ideas on where to donate gently used stuffed animals as comments after the original blog, and in emails. For more ideas check the comments after the original post, and read below!
"Just recently I was asked by a friend for stuffed animals! I sent 2-3 garbage bags with her. She took them to Family Services of the Piedmont. They use them the same way policemen do....to comfort kids. Family Services is a safe place for abused, battered, raped women to come and get counseling, assistance, meals, a place to sleep, etc. They often have kids and bring them with them. So the stuffed animals are used to comfort them while there.(I'm sure they can take them home if really attached). There's also a program called Healthy Start that assists young mothers on how to feed and care for a newborn. The stuffed animals can go to them as well.
Family Services is in Greensboro (387-6161 on 315 E Washington St) and High Point(889-6161 at 1401 Long St, High Point, 27262.)" - Submitted by Ashley V
"Our church takes stuffed animals (after washing them ) to residents in nursing homes. We also take dolls." - Submitted by Paige B
If you have other ideas, please continue to add as comments below! Thanks for your help, Smarties!

I need ideas for toy donations, too! They are in good enough shape to not throw away, but bad enough shape to not consign. Help!
The Vietnam Vets take toys! Here is the link to items they accept. You can schedule a pick-up at your house online!
