Smarty Party Idea: Gate City Lanes

By Katie M

Let’s admit it. Most of us prefer to host our children’s birthday parties somewhere other than our own homes, right? But sometimes the price tag for such parties don’t make it an option. But, if you are seeking an affordable birthday party location for children ages three and up, then we encourage you to take a good look at Gate City Lanes in Greensboro.

Gate City Lanes offers two different party packages: the Extreme and the Basic. And if these packages don’t fit your needs, then Gate City Lanes will work with you to customize a package that’s right for you. And if you mention you saw this blog on Triad Smarty Pants (or their listing on our birthday party directory), you’ll get $10 off a party with 10-14 children, $15 off a party with 15-19 children, and $20 off a party with more than 20 children. How can you beat those deals?

When Gate City Lanes signed up to be a Smarty Sponsor, I personally visited their location and let me tell you – I can honestly say I have not seen a cleaner, more well-kept bowling center. They are also 100% SMOKE-FREE. That’s a huge plus, and it makes a big difference.

Gate City Lanes offers meeting space up to 150 people with full catering, or you can bring in your own caterer. You can rent this space for any kind of party you have in mind (not just birthday) and for any kind of meeting. There are also games rooms with rides for all ages!

Not only is Gate City Lanes offering special deals to TSP moms who book birthday parties, but any TSP reader can get $5 off the Family Special which is currently $29.95 and includes two games of bowling and shoe rentals for four people. Just let them know you are a Triad Smarty Pants reader to receive the discount.

Gate City Lanes is very kid-friendly and family-oriented, and it shows in the kinds of programs they offer. Beginning at age three, children can learn bowling skills, team work, respect and have fun in its Pee-Wee bowling league. The lanes are set up with bumpers, and kids get to bowl two games and enjoy a snack afterwards. All for $6/week.

Beginning at age six and continuing to age 20, children can earn scholarship money by bowling in a certified league. In addition to trophies and prizes, youth bowlers earned over $6 million in 2008 toward higher education.

In addition to its youth leagues, you can also join a Youth/Adult league as a parent (or grandparent) and bowl alongside your children! Gate City Lanes also offers special programs for home-schooled children, as well as for high school and middle school leagues, and they are currently working with Guilford County Athletic Directors to offer bowling as a club sport – another opportunity for youth bowlers to earn scholarship money.

It’s so nice to know there is an affordable AND fun option for a birthday child of any age. A party at Gate City Lanes is also fun for siblings, parents and other relatives attending!

Oh, and one more deal: Gate City Lanes is currently running a Valentine’s Day Special. Just $14.95 for two hours of bowling and shoe rental for two people. The first 24 people to take advantage of this deal will also receive a special gift. Gate City Lanes even has your date night plans covered!

So please support our Smarty Sponsor and call (336) 292-5100 to book your next birthday party. How can you pass on all these great deals?

This is a great idea for an inexpensive birthday party. We had a party for our son here some years ago and all of the boys had a great time.

This might be exactly what we need to do on our snow day today or tomorrow! Thanks for the TSP reader discount.

We had a bowling party for my son last year and it was a big success. It is something that kids of all ages can do, which was nice because we had ages 3 - 12!
