Smarty Scoop on Weekend Events

Happy Wednesday, Smarty friends! I'm starting to feel like Spring is finally here, and thank goodness because there are a lot of great outdoor events this weekend. My oldest turns five this week so I'm not sure if these are happy or sad times for me, but I know she'll be celebrating at some of these great events. Hope to see you out and about!

Spring Break Fundays
April 13th-17th from 7:30 am to 6pm
Thataways Youth Center & Fairchild Community Center
Burlington Recreation & Parks will offer Fundays during Spring Break. Let us entertain your kids with crafts, movies, organized games, and much more. For ages 4 – 12. Cost: $21 per day or $84 for the week. If child attends a BRPD Afterschool Program Full Time - No Fee; Part Time $16 per day or $64 for the week. Based on the classic 1903 children’s novel,this production, by the Little Theatre of Winston-Salem, introduces a poor farm girl sent to live with two strict aunts. The Jungle Book

The Children's Theatre of Winton-Salem presents the time-honored adventure of Mowgli as he learns the 'Laws' of the jungle. Marvelous Mammals

Mammals are much more than fuzzy bunnies and furry pets. Did you know that birds are not mammals? Some mammals are top predators, while others are eaten by almost every animal under the sun. Some mammals are even venomous. From whales to shrews, join us for a class on the topic of mammals, and hopefully we will convince you that mammals are more than they seem to be. Humans, after all, are mammals, too! In conjunction with National Environmental Education Week and in recognition of the Greensboro Parks & Recreation’s 75th anniversary celebration, Bur-Mil Park will offer special educational opportunities for only 75¢, per person. WFU Football Spring Scrimmage
Wake Forest University, Doc Martin Football Practice Complex, WS
Saturday, April 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Bring the whole family and enjoy this unique opportunity to watch the WFU team and coaches up close as they practice, perform drills and scrimmage. Admission is free. All-a-Flutter Butterfly Farm Saturday Family Days

Healthy Kids Day

YMCA Healthy Kids Day is FREE family fun for all in the community - there will be bounce houses, games, prizes, music, free food, the Snake Man from Camp Hanes, and more fun! If it rains, we will be moving our event indoors in our gym.

Healthy Kids’ Day

Healthy Kids Day is for children/youth and their parents, sponsored by the YMCA/Get Healthy Guilford, 98.7 Radio, JAMZ Radio, and The Greensboro Children’s Museum. Exhibitors will provide health services, health education, and fun, healthy activities. Children and youth can look forward to live music and a supercharged dance party, Kids on the Ball, yoga for kids, parachute play, healthy snacks and lots of fun lessons on health and safety. Guilford the Grasshopper will be on hand, along with pirates to help locate clues for the treasure hunt. Free.

UNCG International Festival

The 27th annual International Festival is one of the largest events on the UNCG campus and an exciting opportunity for the University and greater communities to celebrate diverse countries of the world and to foster multicultural awareness. The Festival promotes cultural appreciation and understanding through music, food, exhibits, educational demonstrations and live entertainment from all regions of the globe. Abrakadoodle - Gustav Klimt's "Tree of Life" Doodle

In celebration of Earth Day, we will use recycled materials for our framed project while we discuss a fascinating artist, Gustav Klimt, and his role as the founder of the Art Nouveau movement in Austria. We will make our very own "Tree of Life" masterpiece as we employ techniques from the Art Nouveau movement. Don't miss out on a chance to be a GREEN KID on Earth Day! In the Abrakadoodle multicultural classes, children learn about contemporary and master artists and artistic techniques from around the world. Children will use a wide variety of media and develop a vocabulary to talk about art. Each class results in a unique finished product ready to be taken home. For ages 5-12. Fishers of Men "Legacy Series" Fishing Tournament

Burlington Recreation & Parks and Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail present the "Legacy Series" at Lake Mackintosh. This fishing tournament offers an exciting opportunity for both adult and junior fishermen. Pilot Mountain Astronomy Observing

Splash Into Safety

Maynard Aquatic Center
Burlington Recreation & Parks and the SAFE KIDS Alamance County Chapter team up to bring you the 6th Annual "Splash Into Safety". Come to the MAC for swimming, food, and fun. The safety venues span from poolside to the parking lot. Receive free educational materials about of boating safety, canoe safety, swimming safety, personal flotation device use, dive demonstrations, fire safety house, immunizations as well as many more topics will be delivered through various groups. The goal of the SAFE KIDS Splash Into Safety is to bring safety awareness to children 14 and under. Parents learn valuable lessons as they too, visit the safety vendors.
