Smarty Alert: Baby Sling Recalls

By Krista W, Charlotte Smarty Pants

Over one million Infantino “SlingRider” and "Wendy Bellissimo" slings have been recalled due to a risk of infant suffocation. Sadly, these slings have been associated with three infant deaths. Last month, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a warning on infant slings causing Infantino to reevaluate their products prompting the company to recall their slings. Premie babies and infants under four months of age are at a higher risk due to their smaller sizes as well as babies suffering from heart conditions and respiratory illness.

These particular slings create a “c shape” infant body positioning. Such positioning can cause blockage of the nostrils and airways causing severe breathing trauma with potentially fatal results within minutes.

The recalled slings were sold from 2003 through 2010 at (but not limited to) Target, Babies R Us and Burlington Coat Factory.

Customers who are using these products are advised to stop immediately. Users can contact Infantino at 866-860-1361 to request a free replacement sling or to find more information on the recalled products.

A statement from Infantino can be read at their website www.infantino.com.
