Guess Who's Having A Super Fabulous Mother's Day Today?

By Katie M

First of all, Happy Mother's Day, Smarties! While we hope you are all enjoying your much deserved day of rest and pampering, loyal reader Amy Farmer, winner of this year's Mother of All Mother's Day Give-Away, is one who is definitely enjoying her special day today.

Yes, that's right. Amy is the lucky Smarty who won $1,250 worth of gift cards to 11 of our favorite Triad-area businesses! Nearly 400 of you registered for this promotion which is AMAZING! All of us at Triad Smarty Pants want to send you a big THANK YOU! We never could have organized a promotion like this if it wasn't for your support and interest in this site!

Triad Smarty Pants also wants to send a HUGE THANK YOU to all 11 Triad-area businesses that were so generous to participate in this swagalicious event:

Balance Day Spa
Dream Dinners
Emerywood Fine Foods
Emma Jane's Baby & Kids Specialty Shoppe
GoosiePie Monograms
Kim Taylor & Co.
Nitsa's Apparel, including Fashionista
Simply Sterling & Co.
The Carriage House Restaurant
Upper Case Photography
Young Chef's Academy

As we have said before, even if you did not win this year we hope you'll visit all the sponsors listed above and tell them Triad Smarty Pants sent you!

Our winner, Amy, became a TSP subscriber in April after she learned about the site from another local blog. She subscribes to a Triad Smarty Pants RSS feed and gets notified whenever TSP is updated. Her favorite feature on Triad Smarty Pants is the Wednesday event blog.

Amy and her husband, Steven, have two children: Ellie, who's 12 years old and Ethan, who's turning nine this month. Her husband's job has moved her family quite often over the last 16 years to places such as Richmond, VA, Atlanta, GA, Wilmington, NC, and now the Triad. She's been in the Triad now for four years and believes her family has finally found a great place to settle down and raise afamily.

Apart from splurging on her latest wins, Amy hasn't made any plans for Mother's Day today. "As long as I get to sleep in and not have to do any 'mom' chores like cooking, cleaning, and laundry then I'm happy," she says.

Well, Amy, you may have to wake up early to start booking all of your appointments and get all your shopping in! But I'm sure you won't mind...Congratulations!

And stay tuned, Smarties, as the Smarty Swagfest will continue! While we may reserve blockbuster promotions like this for special times of the year, we promise to always bring you more fabulous Give-Aways in the months to come.

Happy, Happy Mother's Day!

I kept hoping that maybe you just forgot to email me to tell me I had won and I'd wake up this morning and see my name on here as the winner! I am happy for you though, Amy! Have lots of fun shopping and dining out!

I checked out Fashionista this past week and had my eye on a sassy little top that would be mine if I won this! I guess I need to tell the family that the sassy little top needs to be my Mothers Day gift since I didn't win!
By the way - 400 people is a great success for this give-away. I didn't realize I had so much competition. :-)

Just curious - what is the RSS feed mentioned above?

I did the same as the Amy above! I kept going to the Balance Day Spa website and choosing my $100 worth of spa treatments if I were to win! My birthday is next month, so at least I can drop some hints to my husband about what massage I would like best!

Tracy, I can't explain exactly how RSS feeds work so I copied & pasted some info below. I use Windows Live Mail for my email & my blog feeds on my home computer. This way I can subscribe to my favorite blogs & I'm notified when there's a new post online. I also have the Free RSS Reader app for my iPhone. Hope this helps:

What is RSS?

RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.
Why RSS? Benefits and Reasons for using RSS

RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually. You ensure your privacy, by not needing to join each site's email newsletter. The number of sites offering RSS feeds is growing rapidly and includes big names like Yahoo News.
What do I need to do to read an RSS Feed? RSS Feed Readers and News Aggregators

Feed Reader or News Aggregator software allow you to grab the RSS feeds from various sites and display them for you to read and use.

A variety of RSS Readers are available for different platforms. Some popular feed readers include Amphetadesk (Windows, Linux, Mac), FeedReader (Windows), and NewsGator (Windows - integrates with Outlook). There are also a number of web-based feed readers available. My Yahoo, Bloglines, and Google Reader are popular web-based feed readers.

Once you have your Feed Reader, it is a matter of finding sites that syndicate content and adding their RSS feed to the list of feeds your Feed Reader checks. Many sites display a small icon with the acronyms RSS, XML, or RDF to let you know a feed is available.

Amy Farmer, so good to meet you today, and thanks for providing info on RSS feeds! I actually plan to write a post about it soon so other moms can see how it works. Thanks for the super Smarty tip on RSS feeds :)
