Happy Wednesday, Smarty readers, and here’s a happy holiday weekend hurrah to you all! There are a lot of great family events happening around the Triad this Labor Day weekend. So, after you squeeze in those last summer days at your community pool, be sure to check out the following!

DADA First Friday Gallery Hop

First Friday in Downtown Greensboro

The community is invited to a self-guided tour of local art galleries and studios, museums, retail shops, restaurants and alternative arts venues.Many of the participating locations will host special events, promotions and demonstrations and some venues may offer extended hours and refreshments. Back To School Middle School Dance
Saturday, September 5 from 7 - 10 pm
Location: Thataways Youth Center, Burlington.
For 6th-8th graders, dances feature live bands, pool tournaments, Wii tournaments, three pool tables, arcade games and four TVs to keep up with the scores. $6 or $1 with a donation of school supplies. Phone: 336-222-5134.
Daniel Boone Days Music & Culture Festival
Saturday, September 5
Horn in the West Amphitheater, Boone.
Activities throughout the day include arts & crafts vendors, storytelling by Orville Hicks, kids activities, an inflatable 15-foot slide, a telling of the adventures of Daniel Boone by author Randell Jones, a Daniel Boone look-alike contest and the second annual Watauga Arts Council Fiddlers Competition. Live music begins in the evening. The lineup features Upright & Breathin’ of Boone, along with Larry Keel & Natural Bridge from Virginia. Headlining will be Donna the Buffalo. $16 in advance, or $20 at the door. A special family ticket is available for just $20 per car between 1-3 p.m. 1-11 p.m. Phone: 828-264-2262
Summer on Trade

The best street party in the Triad is back for its 10th year celebration. Each Saturday night this summer, plan to come to Downtown's Arts District for an eclectic mix of live music, delicious festival food and beverages and dancing in the streets. Weekend Get-away at Haw River State Park

Haw River State Park, The Summit Environmental Education Center, Browns Summit
Usually reserved only for Environmental Education and conference groups, for this special weekend the Summit Environmental Education Center will be opened to families and individuals for a two-night all inclusive package rate. The event begins with dinner Friday, September 4 and ends after brunch Sunday, September 6. There will be special guests providing an astronomy program and the local Audubon chapter will be leading a morning birding walk, among other special events and opportunities. Weekend includes two-night stay, five meals, use of all recreational facilities and optional planned activities. Rates range from $50-$140 per person depending on choice of accomodations. Wilderness Survival Skills Session 1 - Emergency Preparedness

Family First Workshop - Art from Nature

A workshop for elementary school-aged children accompanied by an adult. Take a walk through the shady woods around Reynolda House and gather items to create your own nature sculpture and print in the studio.
